Addictions- Navarro - Campus Tambayans

CAMPUS TAMBAYANS

Students will always look for outlets to relieve the stresses brought on by seemingly endless lectures, projects, home works and other requirements they have to deal with.

So where do students go to relax? People in the know know where the good “tambayans” are.
In their “tambayans”, students feel they are free to think of anything, the latest gossips at school, their crushes, everything they want to think of without worrying about their academic responsibilities. In their tambayans, students can forget their physics class, thinking, lessons from that class have no bearing on their social status and in their daily lives. And they can do all these with friends, without whom the concept of tambayan will not be complete.

A popular hangout within campus is the blue log at the backfield. This is a favorite of lovers because it is a little isolated. Some students find that stress can be relieved by just being with your boyfriend or girlfriend, enjoying the nice ambiance, the fresh air, and the cool shade.

Another is the library. Instead of thinking of the library as another stressor, some students head to the library to relax. The main attraction is the air conditioner. Another attraction is the relative quiet and the fact that students can take a nap without fear of being punished for doing so.

The kiosks are also popular. You can find rows of them in ADZU. But aside from simply hanging out, these kiosks are also frequently used by students to hurriedly finish requirements, definitely a stressor.

Outside campus, the tambayans many students go to often are Lola’s, Trebor’s, and Vanda. In these places, stress is relieved not just by being with friends but by eating comfort food. At Lola’s, you can forget your problems in ENG211 if you try their famous Beef Curry. But if you do not have a lot of money, you could try their equally famous Maggi Kari with egg. If you do have the money, shawarma at Vanda is the food to eat.

At Trebor’s, students eat their “turon” or the house specialty “pastil” while smoking. For better or for worse, many students smoke to relieve stress.

Students feel a huge need to hangout for their well-being. Some get so comfortable in their tambayan that they are tempted to ditch school. As with all vices, hanging out is best done in moderation.
