The need to have others think of them as beautiful is strong among the youth. The female students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University is no exception.
Advancements in cosmetics technology has made physical beauty more accessible now. Skin can be smoothened, whitened, softened with thousands of products available in the market. There are of course make-up: lipstick, eye shadow, face powders. Addiction to these beauty products is fairly common.
Dermatologic products, or products that work to improve the skin complexion, is a common object of product addiction.


Staying beautiful is common among teenagers and young adults. And you can see that circle in the campus of Ateneo De Zamboanga (AdZU), people looks even younger not just with their ages but also with how they look. Just like Angela Pamaran who is taking up BSecon – II, she said lotion (Vaseline) and facial cream (Ponds) is two of her secrets to simply lighten her complexion. Or as Carmina Recito (BSBio – II) says “Deodorant (anti- per spirant – Derma Product) because it protects my underarms from germs and perspiration. It keeps me fresh and secure everyday.” Marvi Arcillas Erfe a BSAc – I, uses Lotion (Myra –E) and Facial wash (Clean and Clear) she said “I use it to go with the trend and to stay beautiful.” Patricia Tan a BSN – II G says “Lotion ng Belo may quality kasi ang Belo na wala ang iba.”
Other students use beauty products they are immune too, just like Marlyn Atari a BSBA-II uses Soap (Belo) and Facial Foam (Nivea) “kasi yun ang nakasanayan” she says. In addition to that, Niza Sindiong a BSN –II G, also the cover girl of the latest issue of beacon magazine, said “Facial wash (Ponds) to prevent pimples, kasi dumadami ang pimples ko pag gumagamit ako ng ibang brand.” Also from BSN – II G, Maica Andrea Prado said “Powder (Johnson’s) to avoid oily face. Kung wala lang oil hinid na ako magpa-powder except lang pag may party dapat bongga.”
Aside from the product that they use for everyday, most students has a beauty secret that will surely deceive anyone with how they look even if they feel stressed out from their school work or their social life, students like Masayuki Sakai, Rose Anne Climaco, Renz Aguada all from BSOA, Danica Bucoy, Nhordz Jawali, Sherry Mae Epanto, Ryan Muricia, Ana Carlyn Lim all from BSMC, Kyoko Daka from BSPsych, Hazel Antatico from BSIS and Ned Edzel Nohay from BSBA has revealed their secret on how they look their best in everyday drama.
This serves a countdown to reveal the most used beauty products. At number five is the Mascara, they are lots of different mascaras, from clear mascara to black to blue mascara to green, and with that comes on the different brushes of mascara to make it look thicker, longer and etcetera. It is said by the beautician from Reyes: Hair cutters that mascara is used to make the eys look dramatic and enhances your beautiful eyes. Kim Kardashian a reality TV star and the daughter of Defense attorney Robert Kardashian who defended OJ Sipmson, she is also known for her signature look, the smokey eye, which cannot be completed without the heavy mascara used. The usual brand used are Revlon and Everbilena.
At number four would be the Perfume/ Cologne, even if it is not use on the face but this does not mean it is not important to stay fragrant. It is one thing that you should apply after you put on make-up. it is not just about looking beautiful nut of course to smell beautiful. The usual brand used are Victoria’s Secret and Johnson’s.
Cheek tint/ Blush is on number three, this is use to make your face look fresh and natural, it makes your face look thin if you are chubby or make your face look chubby if you are thin. But sometimes other people use the check tint or blush in the wrong way; they use it as if it is a crayon and apply more and more each time because they think it is not going to be notice that much and the outcome of that is they would look like a clown. A little of any cheek tint or blush goes a long way so learn how to use it well to look naturally pretty. The usual brands used are Careline, Bench , Simply Pretty, Everbilena and Revlon.
